NAMED & MEMORIALIZED SCHOLARSHIPS
Do you want to secure your legacy as a Hornet? Did a loved one pass away? Do you want to honor them with a Memorial Scholarship in their name?
Consider starting a named scholarship at $15,000 or more. A $15,000 gift goes into our endowment. 3.5% each year of the funds’ interest is used to provide student scholarships, emergency grants, bridge loans, and presidential scholars programs. The principle is never touched. In this way, each gift provides a minimum of $500 to a student each year… FOREVER!
$30,000 provides $1,000 in student help to reach SPACE and change students’ lives forever generationally.
At larger four-year universities, a small scholarship of $500- 1,000 means very little. It may not even pay for one semester of books. But at the community college level, where financial aid pays credits for our students in need, $500 is enough to pay all the fees for a student each year including health fees, parking fees/bus passes, and books. Some programs have higher material fees and we have special scholarships for these programs. Such a scholarship can get a student through a certificated trade that is known to triple a student’s income for life compared to a peer who did not seek education beyond high school. When their lives are changed, they change their families for generations.
As a named- scholarship investor, you can name the scholarship and partner with us in setting up the criteria for students that get the scholarship.
THE STORY OF THE LAILA ARMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Nick Arman is a veteran of both the United States Marine Corps and the Army National Guard, and a veteran of the Iraq War. He came back home and pursued his post-secondary education using VA education and training benefits, earning multiple degrees, including a Doctor of Education degree in Organizational Leadership. Currently, Nick serves as the Counselor/Coordinator for the Veterans Resource Center here at Fullerton College, and will be transitioning into his new role as Interim Dean of Student Support Services pending board approval on November 10th.
It was a great story of triumph for a warrior. In the midst of all this success, Nick had a greater, darker tragedy than any he faced in war. His precious sixteen-month-old daughter, Laila, was killed in a tragic accident when she ran in front of a truck driving off their driveway driven by a family member during her brother’s third birthday party. This is any family’s worse nightmare. Again, Nick and his wife Suzie turned this tragedy into hope. They started the Laila Arman Memorial Scholarship for students pursuing a certificate and/or degree offered in Child Development and Educational Studies. Now, each year in perpetuity, a student will receive a scholarship to help them with their educational goal(s). Nick has set up an employee deduction of $500/month to continue to add to the scholarship and a GoFundMe page on her birthday each year. Soon there will be many students earning their certificates and/or degrees to educate children blessed by the family’s efforts to make hope from tragedy.
