For specific department processes, including: Athletics, Fine Arts (Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts), Natural Sciences (including Horticulture), Career Technical Fields (Automotive, Criminal Justice, Journalism and Print Technology), Students of Distinction, Study Abroad, and specialized scholarships candidates should contact the departments to register their interest and eligibility and find out if there is a specific application required. Make sure the faculty are aware of your exemplary work and you meet any listed requirements. Enhance your application with an Academic Resume. Ask questions if you need direction.

For General, Business/Accounting, Math/Computer Science, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields) scholarships, a nomination form provides an equitable process in which students are nominated by staff or faculty for being exemplary. You, as students, can help faculty and staff by letting them know you are interested in a nomination and provide an Academic Resume.

Academic Resume

Remember that Faculty and Staff interact with many students.  Please contact one person on campus who you have interacted with and remind them about who you are and your story. Sometimes sending your Academic Resume helps them put a nomination together for you.

Here is what an Academic Resume consists of:

  • Your Name & Contact Information

  • Academic Goals: Where do you want to go? What do you want to study? Is there anything specific you want to mention about your goals to the nominator?

  • Education – GPA: Include your major and career goals, plus any special programs or classes you want to highlight.

  • Club Memberships and Leadership Positions: List in chronological order, including position details and dates. These may include high school, sports, theatre, music, places of worship, summer camps, scouts, etc.

  • Awards and Scholarships: List in chronological order, including position details and dates

  • Conferences and Publications: Most will not have these, but brag if you’ve got them. These could include your impressive social media, websites, vlogs, podcasts, music sites, and more.

  • Community Service: List in chronological order, including details and dates (if different from club/leadership above)

  • Employment History: List in chronological order, including position details and dates. Include both Work History and Academic Positions

  • Need/Obstacles/Other circumstances: Share what you’re comfortable sharing about special needs that you must overcome or have overcome. If not eligible for Financial Aid, be honest about that, but explain why you still need it, if applicable.

  • What is the Format and Deadline of the letter/reference you need? When is this due, and how do they submit the recommendation?
